The sixteen storey residential tower at King Henry's Dock contains a mix of one, two and three bedroom flats, with new accommodation at ground floor level for the Woolwich Dockyard Angling Club. It is clad in curtain walling and anodised aluminium and features a rooftop children’s play area. Car parking on the constrained site is provided in a green wall clad, multi-storey car park. Low and zero carbon technologies to achieve Code for Sustainable Homes level 4 include, solar photo-voltaics and gas Central Heating Plant.
The proposed building sits between two Grade II-listed graving docks, which were themselves constructed on the site of an historic dockyard whose notable occupants include the Beagle and Henry VIII’s warship Grace à Dieu (‘The Great Harry’). An interpretive exhibition covering the site’s history will be installed at the waterside.
The development sits outside the Thames river wall, and extensive negotiations were undertaken with the Environment Agency at pre-planning stage as part of the flood wall had to be rebuilt to gain access to the car park.
